What is ESI Registration?


Employees' State Insurance Corporation, a need based social insurance scheme incorporated under Employees'' State Insurance Act in order to assure better medical care to the employees or workers and their immediate dependants. The scheme protects the interest of employees during incidents and emergencies which includes maternity, sickness, demise due to employment injury or harm, permanent or temporary physical disablement and everything that affects the earning capacity. The act also gives relaxation to the employers of their duties or responsibilities under the Workmen Compensation Act 1923 and Maternity Benefit Act, 1961. Exemption is also allowed from operation of provisions of the Act. APPLICABILITY


Under Section 2(12) the Act is applicable to non-seasonal factories employing 10 or more persons.


Under Section 1(5) of the Act, the Scheme has been extended to shops, hotels, restaurants, cinemas including preview theatres, road-motor transport undertakings and newspaper establishments employing 10* or more persons. Further under section 1(5) of the Act, the Scheme has been extended to Private Medical and Educational institutions employing 10* or more persons in certain States/UTs.


Note: However the threshold for Coverage of establishments is still 20 Employees in Maharashtra and other states/UTs. The existing wage limit for coverage under the Act is Rs.21,000/- per month (w.e.f. 01/01/2017).


ESI Registration is compulsory for the Employers having 10 or more than 10 employees.


The employer needs to contribute 3.25 % and employee needs to add 0.75 % total 4 % of Gross salary. This fund is supervised by the ESI Corporation established under the Act. The employer has to mandatory register within 15 days from the Incorporation. The ESI Corporation has to oversee the provision of medical and cash benefits ESI Card holder and depended family member. Now ESI Corporation has established a vast network of Regional offices, dispensaries,and hospitals throughout all the main cities in India. The state government is accountable for the administration and supervision of the hospitals.ESI Registration process is completely online and we can do this process on your behalf.

  • List of minimum 10/20 Employees with their Name, Father Name, DOJ, D.O.B, Address, Aadhar Number (Details should be as per Aadhar), Nominee name (as per Aadhar), Nominee Aadhar No. and Employees Gross Salary.
  • Copy of GST Registration.
  • Copy of Factory/Shop & Comm. ESTT. Registration.
  • Pan card copy of firm/company/society/trust.
  • Certificate of Incorporation (In case of company/ society, trust/ NGO).
  • Cancelled cheque of Establishment (bearing pre-printed company / firm name & Current Account No).
  • Partnership deed (In case of partnership).
  • Address Proof of establishment (Rent agreement, Water/Electricity/Telephone Bill in the name of establishment)
  • Any Other Certificate of Registration (In case of Proprietorship/ Partnership/ Company / LLP).
  • Copy of PAN Card of Directors / Partner/proprietor.
  • Digital Signature of Authorized Applicant.
